Our Stage Combat 1-day workshop is a fun-filled drama workshop offering children aged 11-16 years the opportunity to devise, rehearse and perform a short piece based on a professional choreographed theatrical fight scene. In this workshop the students will focus on hand to hand combat.

The history of stage fighting and mock combat can be traced back hundreds, if not thousands of years with it first being utilised in the Greek Tragedies. The art of stage combat has been mastered and tailored to provide a safe but effective way to portray the conflicts that occur in stage plays, opera and ballet. Whether it is a simple slap around the face or the use of a rapier in such productions as The Three Musketeers, there is so much to master in this exciting and fun skill.

The students will learn from an expert in her field, Maisie Carter. Maisie started her Stage Combat training with the APC at Guildford School of Acting. She works with a variety of weapons ranging from Unarmed to Sword or Knife, along with many others! She has also trained with 14th-17th century weapons at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Exhibition. Maisie has assisted with teaching at some of the UK's leading drama schools including, GSA, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Performance Preparation Academy. She has also been lucky enough to work alongside some of the top Fight Directors including Kev McCurdy, Kate Waters and Paul Benzing.

The students will also develop work with our Artistic Director, Claire, who will help with creating characters, learning stagecraft skills, devising the scene and help create a short performance at 4.30 pm for family and friends to enjoy. This process is designed to develop creative thinking, drama and improvisation skills and build confidence and teamwork.

It will be a wonderful day of building fun memories, learning new skills and making new friends.

Due to limited spaces available, it is recommended that parents/guardians book early to avoid disappointment. Early bird and sibling discount available, simply email us at bristolacademyofdrama@gmail.com for discount codes and booking information.

All students will need to bring is their willingness to get stuck in, their desire to learn in a focused way, their imagination, comfy clothing and plenty of food and drink to keep their energy levels up.
